Atlanta – The Georgia Public Policy Foundation closes out its 2009 series of events with “Moving Ahead on Mobility in Georgia,” a noon Policy Briefing Luncheon on Thursday, December 10, at Atlanta’s Commerce Club keynoted by Robert W. Poole, one of the nation’s foremost transportation policy experts. Poole, an adjunct scholar with the Georgia Public Policy Foundation, founded the Reason Foundation in 1978 and was Reason’s president and CEO through 2000. He is the Reason Foundation’s Director of Transportation Studies. A member of the Bush-Cheney transition team in 2000, he advised the Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Clinton, and George W. Bush administrations on privatization and transportation policy. Poole is credited as the first person to use the term “privatization” to refer to the contracting out of public services and is the author of the first book on privatization, “Cutting Back City Hall,” published in 1980. His popular writings have appeared in numerous publications. He has written hundreds of articles, papers and policy studies on privatization and transportation issues, including “Reducing Congestion in Atlanta: A Bold New Approach to Increasing Mobility,” which can be found online at http://reason.org/news/show/127667.html. A frequent guest on network television programs, Poole has been described by The New York Times as the “chief theorist for private solutions to gridlock.
