U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland Keynotes
‘Update on Congress for Georgians’

Atlanta
– Since his 2004 election to represent Georgia’s 3rd District in the nation’s capital, Congressman Lynn Westmoreland has focused on cutting spending and shrinking government. Even in a majority Republican Congress, he frequently opposed his fellow Republicans, sometimes seeming a voice in the wilderness.

Now, the annual recipient of the Taxpayer’s Friend Award from the nonpartisan National Taxpayers Union (Motto: “Our only constituency is the overburdened American taxpayer.”) faces a greater challenge. As he puts it in an op-ed he released today: “[N]ow that Democrats control every branch of government, I can’t help but look back on Republican deficits as mere child’s play compared to what President Obama and his fellow travelers have in store for us: trillion-dollar deficits as far as the eye can see and no plausible plan for ever paying it back.”

The Congressman comes home from Washington to share his perspective during an “Update on Congress for Georgians,” a Georgia Public Policy Foundation Policy Briefing Luncheon at noon on Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Atlanta’s Commerce Club.

U.S. Rep. Westmoreland, a resident of Coweta County, entered Congress in January 2005 after serving 12 years in the Georgia House. His district stretches from the southern suburbs of metro Atlanta into Middle Georgia. In Congress, he serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure, Small Business and Government Oversight and Reform committees.

To get your questions answered about the direction of Congress, the mood in Washington and the outlook for Georgians, register to attend “Update on Congress for Georgians” with U.S. Rep. Westmoreland. The cost is $30 for Foundation members; $40 for non-members. The deadline to register is Tuesday, April 14, but seating is extremely limited for this important Policy Briefing Luncheon, so reserve your seat early online at http://www.gppf.org/default.asp?pt=eventdescr&EI=55 or by calling 404-256-4050.
