Atlanta - When the General Assembly adjourned sine die on March 30, it wasn’t without relief, controversy and some unfinished business that will carry over to 2007 and a newly elected Legislature.
Hear all about it from one of the session’s most active participants at “The Georgia Legislature: A Review and Preview,” a Policy Briefing Luncheon keynoted by State Senator Eric Johnson, President Pro Tempore of the Georgia State Senate, and hosted by the Georgia Public Policy Foundation at noon on Thursday, June 1, at the Commerce Club in Atlanta.
Senator Eric Johnson, named one the “100 Most Influential Georgians” by Georgia Trend magazine, represents Senate District 1, which covers coastal Georgia. Elected to the Georgia House in 1992 and to the Georgia State Senate in 1994, he served two terms as Senate Minority Leader.
He is the first Republican to hold the Senate’s highest position – President Pro Tempore – in 130 years. As Senate President Pro Tem, he runs the day-to-day operations of this legislative body, including naming Committees and controlling the flow of legislation.
Senator Johnson is a member of the powerful Rules Committee and Secretary of the Appropriations Committee. Other Committee assignments include Regulated Industries and Utilities; Finance; Natural Resources and the Environment, and Ethics.
A graduate of Tulane University with a Master’s in Architecture, Senator Johnson is an architect at North Point Real Estate, a residential and commercial development firm. He is married and has two children.
